In a relaxed and friendly environment, participants learn how to manage the changes that may occur to skin, hair and general appearance as a result of cancer treatment, through the use of cosmetics and skincare products.
The workshops are for 12-15 women so that the experienced volunteer Beauty Consultants can work with participants individually and as a group.
All participants receive a complementary set of skincare and make-up for use at the workshop. A friend or relative may attend as an observer and the atmosphere is informal.
Workshops last approximately two hours:
- The first hour focuses on skincare and make-up application using the kits of cosmetics, which are colour coordinated to each participant.
- The second hour deals with hair loss. The workshop leader and a trained wig consultant offer ideas and information about choosing and caring for a wig as well as hat, turban and scarf options.
Workshops are run at major metropolitan treatment centres and some larger rural hospitals, e.g. Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat, Sale, Shepparton, Wodonga, 3-11 times a year.
